Who is Joseph?
The final chapters of Genesis tell the story of Joseph, Abraham's great-grandson and Jacob's favored son. Joseph’s story is certainly well known. He was the favored son honored with a “coat of many colors,” who was betrayed and sold into slavery by his brothers. After suffering in slavery and prison, Joseph was elevated to rule over Egypt after interpreting Pharaoh's dreams.
From prisoner to prince, Joseph’s life was filled with both great suffering and incredible blessing. Perhaps, most importantly, God used Joseph to protect the chosen people and covenant promise given to Abraham. Through him, God preserved the promised salvation that would one day bring the Messiah and the end of sin’s curse.
Through Joseph, we can learn much about God’s saving work especially God’s providence. Providence describes God’s active work through all things to bring about his good purposes. Join us this Fall as we explore God's providence through the story of Joseph.
